Ingate Demonstrates the ONLY Successful SIP-Capable Enterprise Products At VON SIPop!, Sparking Interest from Major US Distributors
SIP Can Reach Secure Private LANs for the First Time Ever
October 19, 2001 – Every year at VON, multiple service providers and industry experts gather
to discuss and demonstrate what will become the leading trends in IP communications. Part of VON this year was SIPop!, the industry’s only
general availability interoperability event, coordinated by pulver.com. This year’s SIPop! was sponsored by Lucent, Mediatrix and SUN.
SIPop! is designed to be a platform for presenting complete SIP solutions to service providers and enterprises looking to supplement or replace
their existing PBXs or traditional PSTN solutions. Over 30 companies, including Aravox, Lucent Technologies, WorldCom and Global Comm, participated
in this year’s SIPop!, all armed with SIP solutions. However, only Ingate Systems and Ingate parent company Intertex Data were able to show fully
functional, completely secure SIP-capability, Ingate for the enterprise and Intertex for the consumer and SOHO markets. This demonstration proved
that with Ingate products enterprises can, for the first time ever, have access to the SIP-based communications on secure private LANs.
“We were completely thrilled at the success of Ingate’s firewalls during the SIPop!,” said Olle Westerberg, CEO of Ingate. “With companies including
Microsoft®, AOL and Yahoo! planning to switch to SIP in order to enable universal, interoperable person-to-person communications such as presence,
instant messaging and VoIP, everyone at VON has been looking for the solution to the fact that existing network firewalls don’t allow the traversal
of SIP-based communications. And Ingate, along with our parent company Intertex, have proven that SIP communications are possible effectively and
efficiently with our products.”
Ingate’s firewall contains both a SIP registrar and a SIP proxy, which enabled a number of successful SIP functions, including SIP endpoints through
two firewalls, a globally reachable SIP registrar and SIP proxy on a NAT:ed LAN behind a firewall, and forked calls to SIP and GSM telephones through
telephone gateways.
