New Ingate SIParator® Brings SIP-capability to Enterprise Firewalls
Unique New Product Brings SIP Communications to the Enterprise LAN While
Protecting Firewall Investment
STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN, February 19, 2002 - Ingate Systems, provider of the
world's first SIP-capable enterprise firewalls, today announced the
release of the Ingate SIParator® 40. The first in a series, the Ingate
SIParator® 40 is an add-on that SIP-enables existing firewalls,
bringing universal person-to-person Internet communication to the
enterprise.
SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) is the IETF protocol that is becoming
for realtime person-to-person Internet communications what HTTP is for
the web. However, SIP-based communication has been unable to traverse
current firewalls and NATs, inhibiting universal connectivity between
SIP users on different private LANs. The Ingate SIParator® 40 connects
easily to existing firewalls, enabling SIP-based IP communications
including presence, instant messaging, IP telephony and audio/video
conferencing while preserving enterprise investments in firewall
security.
The Ingate SIParator® 40 is the first in a range of SIParators that
will be released throughout 2002. Designed specifically for the
flexibility, cost-efficiency and scalability needed by small to midsized
businesses, this firewall add-on includes a built-in SIP proxy and SIP
registrar that dynamically control a built-in NAT router. The Ingate
SIParator® 40 connects to the DMZ port of the existing enterprise
firewall and handles all SIP traffic.
"With companies including Microsoft®, WorldCom and AOL supporting the
SIP standard, the only obstacle to enterprise access to realtime
IP-based communications is the necessity for a SIP-capable firewall,"
said Ingate CEO Olle Westerberg. "Not only does Ingate have the
world's first SIP-capable firewall, we offer the alternative option of
purchasing an Ingate SIParator®, allowing enterprises to choose their
method for scalable, flexible SIP-capability."
Ingate offers small to midsized businesses two ways to achieve
SIP-capability. The Ingate SIParator® 40 uses the same innovative
technology found in Ingate's suite of firewalls, launched earlier this
year. Enterprises that want to take advantage of the benefits of real
time person-to-person IP communications have the choice of purchasing an
Ingate firewall - the world's first SIP-capable firewall. Those
businesses wishing to maintain their previous firewall investment can
purchase an Ingate SIParator®, which will SIP-enable
an existing firewall. Prior to these Ingate products, VoIP and IP
telephony have only been available to enterprises as isolated islands,
such as through a corporate Intranet. Ingate is the first company to
bring universal, interoperable SIP communication to enterprise LANs.
