Ingate excels in independent tests of SIP functionality and enterprise security conducted by the Tolly Group

Prestigious organization puts Ingate Firewall and SIParator® through rigorous testing

Fall VON, Boston, September 22, 2003 - Ingate Systems (www.ingate.com), the leading supplier of SIP-capable enterprise firewalls, proved its leadership in bringing Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) capabilities to enterprises of all sizes in a battery of tests conducted by The Tolly Group, a prestigious IT testing organization.

The Tolly Group, which conducts engineering-caliber testing in an effort to provide the internetworking industry with valuable information on current products and technology, tested the Ingate Firewall® 1400 and the Ingate SIParator® 40. A SIParator® is a device that connects to an existing network firewall to enable seamless traversal of real-time SIP-based communications.

Ingate Maintains Excellent VoIP Call Quality

One of the most significant of The Tolly Group's findings was in regard to voice quality while traversing the Firewall or SIParator® boundary. Tolly Group's engineering team proved that there was little or no voice quality degradation while passing through the Ingate products; both the Ingate Firewall® 1400 and Ingate SIParator® 40 exhibited "excellent" toll quality that exceeds levels for business-quality audio.

Ingate Firewall® 1400

Tolly Group engineers subjected the Ingate Firewall™ 1400 to a volley of tests, including throughput benchmarks, an evaluation of the device's SIP functionality, a VPN performance benchmark and voice call quality capabilities.

Results showed that the Ingate Firewall® 1400 delivered more than ample throughput to support T1/E1 connections at wire speed and multiple T1 and even T3 WAN connections at normal load levels. It provided throughput of almost three times that necessary to support a T1/E1 when handling 64-byte frames. In addition, the Firewall offered 17- and 49-times the throughput of a T1/E1 WAN when handling 512-byte and 1,518-byte frames respectively.

The Ingate Firewall® 1400 passed all the SIP scenarios, including tests for basic calls, call hold, call transfer, conferencing, call waiting, Instant Messaging and Presence. It proved support for VPN connections with reliable throughput. Tolly Group engineers also concluded that the Firewall 1400 employed a powerful built-in SIP proxy that ensures business-class call feature support for SIP-based real-time communications.

In addition, the Firewall 1400 demonstrated encryption and decryption of packets in a single VPN tunnel at a rate of 3.6 Mbps for 64-byte frames, 17.4 Mbps for 512-byte frames and almost 28 Mbps for 1,400-byte frames.

Ingate SIParator® 40

The SIParator® 40 was subjected to 26 different SIP test scenarios representing common VoIP and Instant Messenger functions, in each of three different deployment configurations: DMZ mode, DMZ/LAN mode and Standalone mode.

The SIParator® 40 passed each of the SIP tests, proving that users can support SIP traffic alongside traditional traffic types in a secure firewall environment. Moreover, the SIParator® 40 demonstrated interoperability with a commonly installed firewall from NetScreen Technologies, illustrating functionality alongside traditional firewalls.
